Record Breaking A Level Results 2023

A record-breaking year for the Class of 2023!

The Class of 2023 have set new records for the school, surpassing the previous records set in 2019, achieving 32% of grades at A*-A, 60% at grades A*-B and a 100% pass rate at A level. Students have also had incredibly strong success in vocational subjects, with 91% of grades awarded at Distinction* and Distinction, (the highest possible grades achievable)

This morning students opened their exam results surrounded by their families, teachers and friends to discover the future that awaits them. Newquay Tretherras’ Sixth Form continues its strong tradition of achieving the highest possible KS5 A level and Vocational grades, with students successfully gaining places on their desired degree courses and apprenticeships.

This year group is the first cohort after the Covid pandemic to sit full A level exams without any pre-release material or centre assessed grades. Despite there being fewer higher grades available nationally this year, they have managed to outperform previous year groups.

Assistant Headteacher and Director of NT 6th form, Andy Booth, commented, “We are incredibly proud of our students and their achievements. The resilience they have shown throughout their time in the sixth form is a testament to their character and resolve. They are all exceptional, inspiring, and talented young people and as a school we couldn’t be prouder of them”.

Executive Headteacher, Samantha Fairbairn, said “Staff at Tretherras have worked exceptionally hard to support our students as we navigated our way through the educational landscape after the Covid pandemic. All our NT teachers, support staff and governors, and our CELT trust leaders, are rightly proud of the incredible results this cohort of students has achieved after the seven years we have been lucky enough to have them in our care.

On behalf of Tretherras staff, I would like to congratulate our students on their achievements and thank them for being fantastic role models and ambassadors for young people in Newquay and beyond. The Class of 2023 have made an incredible contribution to the life of our school and to our community and they now have an amazing set of exam results which will open doors to their fantastic futures.

We wish them every success and happiness for the next step in their educational journey.

I would like to congratulate our families on the achievements of their sons and daughters and thank them for their support over the last seven years. I hope that they share in the celebrations and are as proud as we are that this impressive group of young people have achieved their goals and are now able to focus on their individual strengths and talents as they leave their Tretherras family and move into adulthood”.
