Newquay Tretherras’ Sixth Form continues its tradition of achieving the highest grades, with students successfully gaining places on their desired degree courses and apprenticeships.
Our students have been through an incredibly tough two years. Many of them were unable to sit GCSEs in 2020 and so this summer’s exams were the first external assessments they have ever taken. It’s a tremendous achievement, and we are immensely proud of you all.
This unique Covid affected year group continually outperformed previous cohorts at NT6 at every data entry point and a huge amount of credit needs to be bestowed on these young individuals, given the last few years of continual disruption. Our headline data is exceptional with 68% A*-B and a 100% Pass rate at A level and similar success with vocational grades being 94% Distinction*/Distinction.
We have now achieved 8 successive years of successful medical applications. Individual student performances were high across all subjects, however there were several individual standout A level performances;
Molly Beckham achieved 3 A*s and has gained a place at Warwick to study English Literature & Creative Writing, Carys Hammond achieved 4 A*s and has gained a place at Cardiff to study Medicine, Sam Millward achieved 2 A*s and an A and has gained a place at Warwick to study Philosophy, Anna Cavender achieved 2 A*s and 2 A’s and has gained a place at Durham to study Modern Languages & Cultures, Zac Spark achieved 2 A*s and 2 A’s and has gained a place at Bath to study Natural Science, Josh Noone achieved 3 A*s and an A is taking a Gap Year to Medicine, Lilly Price achieved an A* and 2 A’s and has gained a place at Bath to study Biology, Abbie Hallam achieved an A* and 2 A’s and has gained a place at Bath Natural Sciences, Tallulah Grundy achieved an A* and 3 A’s and has gained a place at Sheffield to study International Relations & politics, Tamar Hopkins achieved an A*, D* and an A and has gained a place at Regents to study Acting for stage & screen, Emma Hardman achieved 3 A’s and has gained a place at Plymouth to study Criminology & Sociology, Jenna Bailey achieved 3 A’s and a D* and has gained a place at Leeds to study Fashion & Marketing. Head students Coco Bond & Keziah Taylor achieved 3A*s & a B and A*,A,B. Coco has gained a place at Falmouth to study Film and Keziah has gained a place at Manchester to study Middle Eastern Studies. They have been great role models to younger students in their roles.
Level 3 Vocational courses have also produced some amazing performances with the following all achieving 3 Distinction stars.
Kira Frazer (Science) also achieved an A* in Art has gained a place Cardiff to study Biomedicine, Alarna Maguire King (Business) also achieved a B in Mathematics has gained a place at Bath to study Management with marketing, Hannah Simpson (Science) has gained a place at York to study Biomedicine, Matthew Shaw (Science) has gained a place at Aberystwyth to study Physics, Aiden Purcell (Sport) has gained a place at Manchester Met to study Sport & Exercise science, Maisie Maccreadie (Health & Scoial Care) has now started her NVQs to go into childcare, Molli-Mae Higgins (Science), Sam Hawkey (Sport) has gained a place on a Golf Management apprenticeship & is working hard for his Pro licence, Poppy Hall (Science) has gained a place at City of London to study Childrens Nursing, Lucy Gwilt (Science), has successfully applied to the RAF, Charlotte Coveney (Science) has gained a place at Plymouth to study Nursing, Lynda Clarke (Science), Cally Bucknell (Science) has gained a place at Edge Hill to study Nursing and Myles Kaye (Science) has gained a place at Swansea to study Pharmacology.
Director of NT 6th form, Andy Booth commented, “We are incredibly proud of our students and their achievements, particularly this year. The resilience they have shown under such conditions is a testament to their character and resolve. They are all exceptional, inspiring, and talented young people and as a school we couldn’t be prouder of them”.
Executive Headteacher Samantha Fairbairn commented, “On behalf of the staff of Tretherras, I would like to congratulate Year 13 on their great personal achievements. Many of our students have achieved fantastic individual achievements and developed amazing skills during their time in the sixth form, which will open doors to their futures. The resilience Tretherras students have shown under such unique conditions is remarkable. We are proud of every single one of them and on behalf of NT staff, I wish them every success for the future. We would like to thank them for their optimism and positivity in challenging times and for being such great role models and advocates for Tretherras within our Newquay community.
