In a heavily disrupted and incredibly unusual year, NT6 students have once again achieved an amazing set of results, 52% A* – B with an inevitable increase in grades to come due to the Government’s latest announcement regarding mock grades. Vocational qualifications were once again incredibly strong with 74% achieving Distinction*/Distinction grades, which is well above the  National average. Our pass rate across all courses this year, was once again 100%. 

The Newquay Tretherras school sixth form continues its tradition of achieving the highest grades, with students successfully gaining places at Oxbridge, Medical Schools and prestigious Russell Group Universities.  

Matti De Beer achieved A*A*A*A in Maths, Further Maths, Physics & Computer Science respectively and has secured a place at Oxford to read Physics. Yuma Rigolli achieved A*s in Geography and Biology and an A in Maths and has also secured a place to read Geography at Oxford. Erin Burt achieved A*s in Art and 3 x A’s in Biology, Chemistry and Maths and has secured a place at Cardiff to read Dentistry. Shannon Wright achieved A*A*A in Maths, Chemistry and Further Maths respectively. Bethany Greenhalgh achieved A grades in English Literature, History and Music and is set to read History at Cardiff. Head Boy and Girl Josh Beasley and Kelsea Griffiths both achieved A*AB, with Josh set to read Law at Exeter.  

Vocational results were again fantastic with Imy Hinchliffe, Kera Hodge, Ben Hunt, Alex Nicholson, James Lawrence, Jackson Rochford all achieving the maximum triple distinction stars grades. These are the equivalent of gaining 3 x A*s at A Level with most of these students successfully gaining places on degree courses. Kera is set to read Pharmacy at Bath, Ben will read Chiropractic Studies at London South Bank and James Lawrence is to read Biology at Bangor. 

Head of the Newquay Sixth Form, Andy Booth commented, “We are incredibly proud of our students and their achievements, particularly this year. They have shown fantastic resolve and resilience, and they fully deserve their results”. 

Assistant Headteacher James Hammersley said, “Once again, our students have proved to themselves and others that Newquay students are capable of achieving outstanding results that compare to the best schools nationally. Many congratulations to all of our students on these fantastic grades.“ 

Executive Headteacher Samantha Fairbairn commented, “Tretherras staff have worked ethically and with great integrity to follow the advice and guidance from Ofqual in determining an accurate rank order and in awarding accurate centre assessed grades. I am saddened that National issues with externally applied methodology and statistics, alongside a problematic appeals process, has caused confusion and disappointment for some of our young people and their families. We are told we will find out more detail about what constitutes grounds for an appeal based on mock PPE results next week. In the meantime, students have been invited to contact the sixth form team for further advice and guidance. 

On behalf of the staff of Tretherras, I would like to congratulate Year 13 on their great personal achievements. Many of our students have achieved fantastic results and developed amazing skills which will open doors to their futures and improve their life chances. We are proud of every single one of them and wish them every success for the future.
