Sensational Summer Results – A Level Results Day 2019

Press Release: Newquay Tretherras 2019 A Level Results

Newquay Tretherras’ Class of 2019 have smashed all previous records to achieve the school’s highest ever results. An amazing 58% of students achieved A*-B grades at A Level, alongside the 100% pass rate. 85% of results were at C grade or above. These results are well above national averages and are testament to the hard work and dedication of our students and staff. Eight A Level Departments achieved results that place them in the top 25% of grades nationally. Overall, the average grade at A Level was a grade B.

In a record year there are so many students who excelled, with 27% of all results being at A* or A grades. Particular mentions however need to go to Ella Thomas (Physics at Oxford) and Lucy Ivey (Natural Sciences at Cambridge) achieved 3 straight A* passes. Sophie Cooper (Engineering at Exeter) gained 2 A* and an A whilst Millie Blakeburn (Medicine at Exeter) achieved 2 A* and a B. Phoebe Mather (Nursing at Plymouth) scored A*A*A and Travis Squance-Clarke (Maths and Physics at Warwick) achieved an A* and 2 A grades.

The Vocational courses weighed in with a record year of their own, with 83% of all grades being at Distinction grade or above, with 6 of the 7 courses being in the top 25% of results nationally. These subjects include the exam based format, making it an outstanding achievement by these students. The average grade was Distinction +. Danielle Rawson, Paula Posluszny, Owen Capewell, Lewis Davison, Ellie Marshall, Abi Bennet and Dan Woodhead all achieving D*D* grades.

Their dedication and resilience in the face of real pressure has paid off and they can celebrate their success in style! James Hammersley, Assistant Head Teacher added, “These results are truly fantastic, we have been blown away by them. We knew this year group were talented, but they have surpassed all expectations. It goes to show that hard work, dedication and team work can produce amazing results. The students should be very proud of what they have achieved and shows that Newquay Tretherras students are as good as any in the country”.
